Case Study 1
Evaluation of the Cogent Environmental OVA5000 for continuous Arsenic monitoring at the Vineland Chemical Company Superfund Site
Cogent Environmental have installed an OVA5000 at the Vineland chemical company superfund site in New Jersey, USA. This site and the nearby lake and river have been heavily contaminated with Arsenic. The instrument has been installed in the wastewater treatment plant to monitor arsenic levels in the effluent from soil and groundwater remediation. This study highlights comparison data between the OVA5000 and the laboratory methods GFAA and ICPMS.

Case Study 2
Continuous Arsenic Monitoring at the Vineland Chemical Company Superfund Site
This is a follow up to Case Study 1 and details the performance of the OVA5000 during the first 6 months of operation at the Vineland Superfund site. The study contains performance data and highlights the benefits along with the increased efficiency at which the plant is able to operate.

To ensure maximum sensitivity and accuracy when using the OVA5000, use only reagents supplied by Cogent Environmental. We supply a full range of both standard and bespoke reagents from stock depending on specific applications.
Supplied in 10 litre containers , OVA5000 reagents are manufactured to ISO 9000 standards. Cogent Environmental have recently introduced a range of electrolyte concentrates specifically for the OVA5000. These offer an improved shelf life, easier storage and significantly reduced shipping costs.
Standard reagents currently available:
Electrolytes
Supplied as either concentrates or liquids
- CLAC
- Hg Electrolyte
- As Electrolyte
- Mo Electrolyte
Calibration Standards
All calibration standards come in quantities of 1 litre and 1 ppm concentration
The currently available calibration standards are:
- Zn, Cd, Pb as a mixed standard
- Cd, Pb, Cu as a mixed standard
- As, Hg, Cr, Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu and Mo as individual standards
Plating Solutions
For applications that require a thin film plate:
- Hg Film
- Cr Film
- Bi Film
Other Reagents
We have a selection of other reagents currently available including those for use with the OVA5000 acid digester, contact us for more information.

Continuous, real time heavy metal monitoring
The OVA5000 is the most accurate and flexible online system for continuous heavy metal monitoring available today. The system has a wide ranging capability including:
- Monitoring wastewater discharges to minimise the risks of exceeding consent limits and heavy fine being levied
- Monitoring river water to immediately identify sources of heavy metal pollution
- Monitoring drinking water to protect from potential metal contamination
- Improving process control through real time feedback in mining and metal processing industries
Cogent technology is well proven with installations now running for in excess of 13 years. The system used by Cogent Environmental has no need for elemental mercury, significantly minimising potential contamination risks and disposal costs.
Data is accessible either via the built in PC or remotely via intra or internet. Alarm relay interfaces can also be provided to trigger process control actions such as ‘cut-off’ valves or other automated responses.
The OVA5000 is designed to be accurate and robust with a minimum service requirement. The accuracy and reproducibility of the system has been proven over a number of years of commercial use in customer premises.
Simple routine maintenance takes less than 30 minutes per week, including verification of pump calibration, cleaning the sample lines and analysis cells. In the unlikely case of component failure, new ‘modular’ parts are available from local distributors and can easily be replaced by the user themselves, without the cost of a service engineer call-out.
Cogent Environmental provide global technical support, where possible by telephone or email guidance in order to avoid callout costs. With the customers’ permission our technicians can often make necessary adjustments to a networked OVA5000 by remote computer access.
Cogent Environmental systems maximise the economic and operational benefits of online monitoring for heavy metals whilst helping ensure compliance and environmental protection. Contact Cogent Environmental today for further information or to discuss an installation.
